Back when I did a weekly newsletter for Misprints I would put a section of Hot Links, which were random things I found interesting over the week. I figured I’d start doing that again here to help inspire anyone out there who is stuck in an inspirational rut.
Game Link: Super Assembly Bros.
This video shows how that fun warp zone in Mario Bros was coded and how it was actually supposed to work. It’s pretty in depth about how the levels were set up in the code to save space and how the developers used mobs as triggers for events. I remember when just knowing about the warp levels was a big deal, turns out there are more tricks to them.
Music Link: LoFi Jazz by KAZUMI KANEDA
I was loading some stuff to my Zune over the weekend and found some really good stuff by a guy called KAUMI KANEDA. Outside of Florence + The Machine I like to listen to stuff with no words or harsh intensity, especially when trying to write. I thought some of yall might like his stuff too. It has that SimCity Classic soundtrack vibe to it, or background music in a cafe I can’t afford to be in.

Book Link: It’s Lottery Day
June 27th is the day that Shirley Jackson’s famous short story “The Lottery” takes place. It was first published in 1948 in The New Yorker and instantly caused readers to freak out and cancel their subscriptions. Just like all good short stories the theme can be applied to just about any topic you wish. I know it’s been a while since English class so I’ve added the link below:
You can read the whole thing again here.
Hope everyone has a productive start to the week. Looks like we might get some much needed rain today which means I’m about to tear down the kiddie pool…
