Nearly every motivational podcaster or influencer will tell you it’s easy to do “xyz” while working a full time job all you have to do is get up at 4 or 5am, you know, with all that limitless energy cocaine has to offer for breakfast. The other end option is to work late at night if getting up early isn’t a thing for you. There are folks out there who pride themselves on working 16 hour days with time for fishing and golf on the weekends. But I’m not those people, you’re probably not those people. (I have to do my own cooking, dishes, and laundry. Why do we listen to those people?)
On days I work, the four spare hours before bed are spent cooking dinner and getting kids ready for bed before the next day. Weekends are spent cleaning house and doing laundry. On the off chance I have a spare hour or two I use that to write. (Like right now.) Years ago I would sit down to play a long game like Skyrim, Mass Effect, or Diablo for fun. Now, not so much.
I’ll see folks posting about the latest game or my kids will tell me all about something new because they have more spare time after school and all for this stuff. I know I know, the Iced Coffee Complex applies here. (If you want to do X stop doing Y.) But I don’t even have time for Netflix binging or other time sinks to cut here lol. At least writing this stuff sharpens skills for my other serious writing projects. But yeah, I’m sure when something new comes out that I’ll be able to play I’ll “make the time” for it, just like we all do.
